Main Roads Albany - Corporate Day - Saturday 9th April 2011
That wasn't there before!
On behalf of the Albany Clay Target Club Inc I would like to thank everyone from Main Roads Albany that attended our club on Saturday 9th April 2011.
Even though the man upstairs decided it would be a good idea to blow for most of the day, everyone hit atleast 1 target and that is what we set out to achieve. Some hit more than others as you can see in the picture on the right (Geoff) but he didn't walk away empty handed. With a medal for his efforts, his pride intact and an appointment with a paintbrush Geoff will probably not live this one down in the office for some time. Just goes to show, anyone can do it!
After a meet and greet and a safety pep talk from our own Ken Paterson, there was not much more to do than go out a see if we could break 1 or 2 of those tiny orange discs. Well it seemed easy enough. How hard could it be? We soon found out that it wasn't just a matter of pointing that 12 gauge shotgun down range, screaming "PULL" and pulling the trigger.

The Teacher.
Dave Holland instructs Terry Hodgkinson
With the outstanding help and supervision of top shooters like David Holland, Colin Hinkley, Victor Irving, Ken Paterson, John Fisher, Travis Adams, Michael O'Donnell and Jason Beveridge we were able to crack those little suckers in a very short time. Everyone that shot managed to bust atleast one target. Some more than others but who's counting eh! It's all good fun.

It was evident right from the beginning that everyone was pretty keen to hit their first target. As the targets started falling from the sky in pieces, the smiles got bigger. I think at one point Ron was just about conscripted into the club. At the end of the day, if you can confortably and safely hold the gun up and shoot at a moving target, you CAN do this. Age is no barrier. Willingness to have a go and improve on last months result is the key to success.
Nothing like a bit of friendly competition.
After firing a few rounds off with a little tuition, everyone joined in a bit of friendly competition. Scores across the board were impressive considering no one had ever shot at a clay target before.
Top Scorers were:
Ron Stevens 7/10
Luke Grieve and Christian Johnson 4/10
Petra Mareth and Steve Hutchings 3/10

Time for a bite.
At the end of it all, many clays were busted and many smiles were created. The end result, fantastic! We made some new friends and may, just may have found a few new members. We sat down over lunch and had a chinwag and a laugh and just mellowed over the thoughts
